Handball Tournament

We took one team to a Handball tournament at the Heber High School. After several trials and practise sessions, the team hoped for more success.

It was a tough group yet again for us where we were pitched against Tattenhall, Malpas and Bickerton. Our first match was against Malpas. We were slow to get going and with the defence pushed too high we were caught out by a long ball over the top and Malpas took the lead. After more Malpas pressure, our clearance went straight back to them and they punished us to make it 2 - 0. However, then it clicked and we began to play. Farrah came on and scored a fine goal in the corner. Then, it was all Farndon and we had chance after chance, but we couldn't get it past the Malpas keeper. So we started with a 2 -1 defeat.

Our next game was Tattenhall. We had now found our level and we dominated possession. Edith got the ball on the edge of the area and found the corner. Then it was Polly's turn to score and Edith wrapped up a 3 - 0 win with another fine goal.

In the last game, the pressure was on. We had to beat Bickerton, who had already won both of their games. We played magniciently in the middle of the pitch. Mollie had a great chance, but it was saved. Then Edith had a shot, which was again saved. We peppered the Bickerton goal, but just couldn't find a way past the keeper. And then the sucker punch... Bickerton broke down the left and their shot beat our keeper at the near post through the legs. A 1 - 0 defeat and we had to reflect on how different it could have been.

The team can be very proud with how they played. Malpas and Bickerton were good teams, but the stats would show we had more possession and shots, but we just couldn't take those chances and score. We know what we need to work on for next time!!!
