The Farndon Soapbox Race 2024
Lesson: PSHE and citizenship
On Sunday, was the third Farndon Soapbox race to raise money for the Hospice of the Good Shepherd. Incredibly, as the day opened, we found out it takes a staggering £15,000 per day to run the Hospice so each and every team were determined to give it their all and raise as much money as they could.
And that determination was truly tested for the marshals, drivers and spectators as the weather was far from kind! It literally poured down with rain the whole day up until 3:00pm. But spirits were not dampened and the crowds lined the streets for the start of the first run.
And what a run it was – Team Nitro on their first run got the fastest time of the day with 30.6 seconds! And with that they won the trophy for the fastest overall time. It was an impressive time considering this year was a much tighter course, with two tricky ramps and a chicane.
School entered another kart this year. Mr Walker, Mr Bond and Mr McCann were the Crash Test Dummies team. We stripped it back to basics this year. All 3 drivers made it to the finish line, but our thicker wheels made our kart a touch slower than previous years.
Our driver teams went all out this year. All the celebrities were on show from Del-Boy to Deadpool – even the Thunderbirds entered a kart! We also had stars from stage and screen with the Minnions, Back to the Future and Titanic.
Huge congratulations to the Willy Wonka team and their Umpa Lumpas who won best kart.
We must also give a huge thank you to the Soapbox Committee, their team of volunteers, our PTA and all those people that came out and braved the weather to raise valuable funds for such a brilliant charity.
