Morning Snack
Snack policy
Farndon Primary School is a healthy school, and this is reflected in our school snack policy. We recognise the importance of a healthy lifestyle and diet and understand that establishing a balanced diet in childhood helps to promote healthy eating habits for life. Healthy eating is explicitly addressed within the Science, PE and D&T curriculum. All children in KS1, and Reception receive a free piece of fruit or vegetable everyday as part of the Government’s School Fruit and Vegetable Scheme.
Junior children are able to purchase a snack from the school kitchen which includes bagels, toast, tea cakes and a bacon buttie on a Friday (everything in moderation of course). We also sell water, milk, juice and milkshakes.
Pupils are also allowed, if they wish, to bring in a snack from home. However, we do ask that parents make every effort to try and make it a healthy snack. We politely ask that it isn't confectionary.
Snack can consist of:
- Fresh fruit or vegetables
- A small portion of dried fruit
- Savoury crackers, breadsticks or rice cakes
- Small portions of cheese.
- Natural yoghurt/fromage frais (such as the Frubes yoghurt tubes)
- Protein based snacks – i.e. meat sticks or boiled eggs
- Dried fruit snacks such as Yo-Yo’s
- Meat loaf such as Soreen
- Cereal bars (nut free)
For pre prepared fruit we ask that parents provide reusable containers rather than single-use plastic pots.
Snacks will be monitored by school staff whilst out on duty. Where it is felt the snack isn’t a particularly healthy option, staff might give advice. If it is confectionary, the child may be ask to pop it back in their bag.
Farndon Primary School is also a nut-free school and no food containing nuts should be brought on to the premises, including snacks for break time.
