Heber Science Fair
This week it was the Heber Science Fair and we had plenty of Farndon projects from some of our budding Scientists.
From Year 3 and 4, Millie looked at how hours of training and hard work can impact on how the body can adapt - her own horse was the star of the show. Heidi could passionately share her work on animal adaptations; she could talk all about the work of Charles Darwin and her presentation included lots of information on the survival of the fittest. Lilly Cross could confidently talk about how animals have adapted to suit their environment - her collection of results strongly supported her aim. Freya (Y3) and Lilly (Yr4) conducted an investigation into how temperature and climate can affect the growth of a plant. They could explain what variables were kept the same and what they were testing - and the cress tasted delicious. And finally, we had Olivia and Evelyn from Year 4 and they did a wonderful experiment that expertly showed the impact of global warming on the ice caps and the devastating effects it could have on the world.
From Year 5 and 6, we had Alex who conducted an investigation on succulents and how different conditions can affect the growth of the plant. He painstakingly monitored over several weeks and recorded new leaf growth and height. Scout, our winner last year, completed a body of work on how climate change is causing coral bleaching. She ingeniously showed this with coral pieces being bleached in the lower temperatures of her water bath. Cerys, from Year 6, did a brilliant presentation on the perception of time under different conditions. Phoebe and Farrah presented their work entitled Plastic Planet. It looked at the impact of plastic waste in the oceans and how things can be improved. Finally, we had Eliza and Robyn who shared their work on Beavers and how they effect the environment and even climate change within our planet.
And so to the prizes......
Lilly Cross recieved a well deserved 2nd place rosette for her work on camouflage and adaptations. Scout followed her win last year with a 2nd place rosette - the judges were so impressed with how passionately she spoke about coral bleaching. And Evelyn and Olivia proudly walked away with a red rosette and an Amazon voucher with first place awarded for their brilliant investigation on how global warming could affect the sea levels which could lead to devastating floods on land.
A huge well done to all our scientists .
