More League Matches

After success in their first league matches against St Oswalds, our Year 3/4 and Year 5/6 football teams were ready for the challenge that Saighton posed.

First up was the Year 3/4 team. It was almost like a re-run of the St Oswalds game, with our team totally dominating, but not scoring a goal. Eventually, all the pressure managed to pay off. Jermiah got the ball on the edge of the box and let a shot go; it got a slight deflection and hit the back of the net. 1 - 0 at half time and the message was shoot earlier from distance and put the chances away.

Jack came on up front and had an immediate impact. He spun his defender in the box, was tripped and went down. PENALTY. Jonah stepped up to take it and hit it low and hard in the bottom left corner. But the keeper guessed right and pulled off a top class save. A corner followed and Jonah raced across to take it. A short corner straight from the training ground and it was played short to Rory. One touch and then he hit the ball through the keepers legs to make it 2 - 0. Teddy and Henry were incredible at the back and didn't allow Saighton a chance in and around our box. However, late on, they had a break away and there was a 1 vs 1 against our keeper and Kuba was up to the task. Diving low to his right, he saved it to protect his clean sheet. There was time for Jermiah to make another driving run forward and let fly with a clean strike. After the keeper saved it, the rebound fell nicely to Niall who applied the finishing touch. A 3 - 0 win to put us top of the table.

Player of the day - Blake Robinson. Fabulous down the flanks, showing wonderful skills and quick feet. He made so many driving runs and played some wonderful balls into the box.

Next up, it was our Year 5 and 6 team and we were missing key players. But it didn't seem to affect the players. Straight from kick off they were on the attack and kept Saighton playing in their own half. Ollie Jae marhsalled the midfield and opened the scoring, volleying in from a Thomas corner. Logan made it two with a tight finish and Ollie Jae made it three with a fine strike. Then, Farrah showed them all how it is done. She nicked the ball from Ollie-Jae's toes and drove into the space ahead of her, before unleashing an unstoppable stike into the top right corner that left the goal rocking! After half time, the team quickly looked to build on their lead. Ollie-Jae completed his hat-trick before leaving. Then, making his debut, Oscar scored a brace. It finished 10 - 0 and was a totally dominant display.

Player of the day - Thomas Ollerhead. Assists and goals but what made Thomas stand out was his attitude. Even when 9 - 0 ahead and in the hot sun, when Saighton broke late on in the game, he sprinted back to defend the box. Brilliant tracking back. Well deserved Thomas.

Next up for Year 5 and 6 is Malpas and Year 3 and 4 have a tricky final league match against Cherry Grove, followed by trying to hold on to their Heber tournament trophy.
