Farndon General Elections
Lesson: PSHE and citizenship
Class: Year 5 Owls Year: 2014 - 2015
If you thought the General Election was a night of shocks, well Farndon's Election was also full of tension and drama.
What was so pleasing was that each of the parties fought a fair campaign and focused on the issues and their points on their manifesto. School was filled with posters and the party leaders visited each of their constituencies ( the classes) to canvas for votes.
All four party leaders were fantastic and did a great job managing their campaign budget, their team of running mates and their election promises. All four leaders were asked to do a Party Political broadcast to the school to share what they would do if they were elected.
On Thursday, the Year 4 mobile was the Polling Station and each child had to be registered to get a voting card. An amazing 95% of the electorate turned up to vote. On Friday, Mr Walker, as the Returning Officer, announced the results.

The campiagn is over, but the work goes on. The Tomorrow Party will now be invited to speak with Governors and the Village Parish council to share their manifesto and follow through on their promises.
Congratulations to all the Party leaders and their teams, who all won a constituency. The process as a whole has certainly been worth while and taught our children a great deal about Democracy: how it works within our country and the importance it can have in giving people a voice and bringing about change.
A big thank you must go to Mrs McCarthy for her hard work in running and organising the election.
