Sports Day

Well at last - we got lucky with the weather.

Tuesday afternoon was the Infants turn to shine on the track. It was their sports day and the children gave it everything for their houses. There were some wonderful individual performances and all the children seemed to enjoy the afternoon. As well as the children challenging for personal glories for those precious 1st, 2nd and 3rd place stickers, the children were also competing for their houses: Beech, Sycamore, Maple and Willow.

The children got to complete in the traditional track events such as relay, sprint, egg and spoon and sack race. They also got to compete in field events such as throwing the shot putt (or in the infants case a bean bag) and the javelin.

This year it could not have been closer! It went down to the final race in Year 2 - the relay. race. In equal third place, Maple and Willow ended the day on 175 points. In second place, by just 3 points was Sycamore with 82 points. And so the winners, once again was Beech with 185 points. They won the overall trophy last year and so can they repeat it once again? It's up to the Juniors now.

On Wednesday, it was glorious weatber and the juniors enjoyed their sports day. They competed in several races: sprint, egg and spoon, sack, ball between legs, bat and ball, relay and the long distance (200m).

There were some memorable races - the finish in the Year 6 girls long distance was memorable! The scores were tight at the half way point with just 5 points separating 3 teams. But it was the javelin that swung it. Winning the javelin by 40 points, Beech came out winners once again with 424 points.

So having won both events, Beech were the clear overall winners. The total scores can be seen below.

Beech: 609 points

Sycamore: 537 points

Willow: 529 points

Maple: 514 points
