Netball Victory!
After coming so close in the Handball, the girls were hoping to put things right in the netball. In previous years, our netball team has come so close but never actually won. The girls had put many hours into their training after school and so hopes were high.
We took two teams to the tournament. Our second team gave it their all, but they were narrowly beaten by Tushingham, Bickerton and Tilston; it gave some of our Year 5 pupils valuable experience. Farndon A started their tournament with victory against Farndon B. Then, they played Tattenhall who we had lost to in finals and semi-finals in previous years. It ended in a 4 - 2 defeat. However, the team didn't let this get them down. In their next match, they raised their game and beat a tough Bickerton team 3 - 0. They followed this up with a 3 - 0 win over Tilston and a convincing 5 - 1 victory over Malpas. Their final match was another big win agaisnt Tushingham with the game ending in 4 - 0.
As this was a league format, the team crossed their fingers, hoping Tattenhall would slip up. In their final game perhaps the pressure told and they were beaten by Bickerton. Level on points, it meant it went down to goal difference. The team jumped for joy when it was announced that Farndon had scored more points - they were the netball champions for the first time!
A huge thank you to the team of adults that have made this possible and worked so hard to coach the team and prepare them so well for this tournament. Miss Brown and her team of parents, Mrs Palgrave Jones, Mrs McKew and Mrs Howarth have done a fantastic job!! Now let's hope theycan take this good form through to their up and coming Chester league matches.
