Lower Junior Tag Rugby

It was the turn of our Lower Juniors at the Broxton Rugby tournament this time. Could they do what the Upper Juniors did and bring the trophy home?

Sadly, the girls tournament was cancelled - Farndon was the only school to send an all girls team! Mr Firkins still entered them into the other tournament with the mixed teams and they gave it a really good go. Their first match was against Tushingham B. They raced into a 2 - 0 lead but Edith pulled one back for a 2 - 1 loss. Their second match was against a strong Tattenhall team. We went ahead through Harriet, but then Tattenhall dominated, scoring 5 tries. Their last match was against a very good Tilston team who were so well organised. The game ended 2 - 0.

Well done girls as you put in some really gutsy performances. Had it been an all girls tournament we are sure they would have smashed it! Player of the tournament was Harriet who was a constant threat and always looked like she could get a try.

The mixed team started against Malpas. Dylan and Thomas chipped in with some tries and it was a solid performance, winning 4 - 2. Next up was Tushingham and it was tense to say the least. 3 - 2 was the final score. Bickerton was the final group match and it was another that could have gone either way! The team clung on at the end and won 2 - 1.

In the semi final they faced Tilston. They took an early lead, but we equalised. Then, the drama unfolded! Tilston appeared to race through and score, but it ws disallowed. We were able to take advantage and Oliver raced through to score in the dying seconds! A 2 - 1 win.

It was Tushingham again in the final. At 1 - 1 both teams looked like they could win. But tries from Rhys and Oliver gave us a 3 - 1 victory. The trophy was coming back to Farndon.

There were some stand out performances from Dylan and Rhys and Freya and Finn were incredible at getting the tags. But player of the tournament went to Oliver for some of his breathtaking tries.

That's 4 tournaments out 4 for this year!
