Indoor Athletics
It was the turn of the Year 5 and 6 athletes to prove themselves once again in the Heber Indoor Athletics tournament.
The competition comprises of lots of different sprint races, relays and hurdles. And of course there are the field events such as long jump, speed bounce, javelin, high jump and chest push.
We were hoping to improve on last year when we finished low down the pecking order. Hopes were high as this year was a strong team with a real mix of Year 5 and Year 6 pupils.
There is no individual glory in this event - it is all about getting points for the team. There were some real stand out performances though that are worthy of mention. Both our relay teams sprinted to victory. Toby excelled in the field winning both the long jump (where it was so big it broke the mat) and speed bounce. We believe Mollie broke a record in the speed bounce and Thomas topped the charts for vertical high jump. All our field athletes showed great technique and Polly used it to good effective in her javelin throw. Also, Polly and Sienna ran an incredible Paarlauf race and cruised to first place.
When all the points were gathered and counted, it could not have been closer! We were squeezed into second place by only 4 points! All the team can be incredibly proud of how they performed. They all gave it their very best. But it was team captain Toby Glynn who showed why he was chosen to lead the team; on hearing the result, he reached out to shake the hands of the winning team. Well done everyone! Runners Up
