Girls in the Cheshire Finals

After a wonderful performance in the Chester District Girls Cup, our Year 5 and 6 girls qualified for the Cheshire Finals. In November, they raced all the way to the final without conceding a goal and came runner up to a very good Lache team. It was only a penalty that separated the sides and so they went into this tournament full of confidence.

There were 20 of the very best teams from all over the Cheshire region and the standard was high. Our first match was against Black Firs and it was a cagey affair. We had a couple of half chances and Lottie made a good save. However, we let  in a late goal in from a simple throw in to lose 1 - 0.

Next up it was Statham Primary. We had the better of the chances but we weren't at our clinical best. It ended 0 - 0 and we had our first points on the board. Next up was against tournament favourites Hartford. After just 4 minutes we found ourselves 4 - 0 down. They were scrappy goals and some dubious refereeing decisions cost us. What made Mr Firkins and Mr Walker most proud was how the girls reacted at half time. They came out fighting!!!

They totally dominated the second half. The red mist had descended and they were on fire. In the last minute, Amelia raced through on goal and smashed it into the top left corner. As it turns out, we lost to the eventual winners of the tournament and we were the only team to score past them in 2 tournaments!

We are so proud of the girls - not only with how well they played but also their wonderful attitude and team spirit. It was an absolutely pleasure coaching them in both tournaments. We coudn't pick a player of the tournament as it was a real whole team effort.
