Football Tournament

It was the turn of the boys (and Ayse once again) for the Chirstleton Football tournment.

In our group, we only had two other teams and so we had to play them twice. First up was Hoole. We gifted them their first goal, but they scored a well worked goal to go 2 - 0 up. Finley scored a fine goal to get us back in it but it finished 2 -1. Our next game was Huntingdon. We played better in this match and Charlie continued his fine form and started off many of our best moves. Early in the game, Finley put Ralph through and he fired one into the top corner. A 1 - 0 win.

And so for the next round of matches. We went more defensive against Hoole, which seemed to work until late on. With Finley down after a good defensive block, they took advantage and blasted one in from the edge of the box. A 1 - 0 defeat. Faint hopes for qualification as best runners up was quashed as Huntingdon raised their game and we were outplayed and too open at the back, resulting in a 1 - 0 defeat.

Before we came home, we had time for a friendly against St Werburghs. One the pressure was off, this was when we showed what we could really do. Some of the football was sublime. We attacked down the flanks and crossed with several players queuing up to finish at the back post. It turned into a goal fest. There were debut goals for Ayse who rifled a shot into the roof of the net and Henry fired home a penalty into the top left corner. It ended 7 - 0.

We saved our best till last, but when it was ultimately too late. Going forward, there were flashes of brilliance, but as a team we will need to work on being more physical and hard in the tackle. Cup match against Tattenhall next - who finished third! Plenty of positives, but also a few things for us to work on.

Player of the tournament for us was Charlie. Superb work on the right. His eye for a pass was fantastic and all our best moments started with a weighted ball played by him. Well done Charlie.
