Chester Schools Cross Country

This weekend was the first of four races in the Chester Schools Cross Country Championships and we took our biggest team ever with 17 athletes in total.

For our Year 3 pupils it was their first experience of the race, but they some overcame their nerves. Hattie and Jessica were out near the front from the very start. They ran a briliant race, supporting each other and Jessica got silver and Hattie won bronze. This insired Alfie and he got a great start. It was a tense finish with 4 runners racing for the line. Alfie showed no fear, and with 1 runner fallining, he managed to dodge him and cross the line for bronze.

Our Year 4 pupils had a taste of the medals last year. Blake, Henry and Jonah went out hard and were well placed. Henry maintained his pace to win silver. Jonah was pushed all the way, and on the dip was pushed back into fourth, with Blake close behind in fifth. Oscar once again finished very strongly and Ronnie, Stanley and Edward all completed the course. The girls also did well. Two girls raced clear so it was a scramble for bronze. Flo finished in sixth and Evelyn was eighth and Lana finished in the top 15 to give stong hopes for a team medal at the end of the season.

In Year 5, Polly got the start she needed and was in contention all the way around. She found some energy in her legs and raced to line, but was pipped into fourth. Nancy returned to race again and she finished strongly. Layla ran well, but she found things tough on the second lap and April had a brilliant debut and crossed the line with a huge smile on her face.

Our Year 6 girls - now considered verterans - took to the course and went out hard. Zara was leading from the start, but on the final 100 metres she was run down and finished second for a silver medal. Mollie wasn't far behind and finished comfortably in third to win bronze.
