Headteacher's blog Week Beginning 5th January
Date: 11th Jan 2015 @ 12:23pm
The Christmas holidays are already a distant memory. It has been great to see the children come back into school with so much enthusiasm.
We welcomed Mrs Jane Owen to the staff this week and she has settled in so well into Year 3. All the classes have started there exciting new topics. Year 1 and 2 are learning all about Superheroes! There already some fantastic displays up including spiderman's web.
I spent some time in the Early Years classrooms this week to see their phonics and their new timetable. The phonics was so much fun - all the children were so engaged with Reception and Nursery children working alongside one another. I was so pleased to see how well they were progressing in their sounds. And now the children in Reception and Nursery are engaging in structured in child initiated play through Plan - Do - Review. It gives pupils time to think about the choices in their learning and reflect on how it went. I am looking forward to seeing this in action in the near future as it becomes more embedded.
Year 3 and 4 and coming out of the stoneage cave and their topic is Staying Alive. I look forward to seeing some of their work on animals and their adaptations and their global learning elements of the conservation of rainforests. And Year 5 and 6 are Endangered this term and have started the term writing reports on some endangered species.
And in the first week Handball training started in the mornings once again. Pessure is on for the Year 5 and 6 pupils as we are desperate to retain our crown. Mr McKie is working hard preparing the children and they clearly have lots of fun playing the sport.
We have certainly hit the ground running this term and we are looking forward to another very busy Spring term.
