Headteacher's blog Week Beginning 24th November

Date: 28th Nov 2014 @ 11:36am

Well December looms and the run up to Christmas is certainly in full swing!

The Early Years have perfected their play and I can't wait to see the performance on Tuesday and Wednesday. The Infant play is coming together nicely and they are working hard practising their songs and dances. And in the next few weeks, the children have got lots to look forward to including panto trips, Christmas clubs and of course the delicious lunch.

In Year 5 and 6, some children  have been preparing for a maths challenge. The questions were so hard ( I couldn't do some of them!!!) bu the children performed so well. Catrin and Kacper achieved a Bronze Award, Grace and Henry managed to get Silver and Phoebe and Alanah did fantastically well and achieved Gold!

All this week we have been covering Anti Bullying in class and in our assembilies. Each class in the Juniors shared some important messages of how as a school we can ensure that this does not happen and can support one another.

On Tuesday, I was lucky enough to be able to go and see the Basketball team in action. We took two teams to a tournament at the Heber High School. Both teams played so well. One of our teams won 2 of their matches and the other team won 4 matches. It was that team that made the final and it was such a tense and tight game. It went to the wire and Ben in Year 6 scored a memorable basket. Yet another win and trophy for the school. I must admit I did give a little fist pump in th air, as it's always nice to win, but what was most pleasing was the childen's attitudes towards the game and their behaviour. A big thank you to Mr McKie for helping to prepare the team.

Recently, we have enjoyed lots of success in sport as a school and have won the rugby, cross country and basketball, and before the summer we were champions in football, rounders and tennis. I know that Premier Sports have played a large part in our success. This week I observed some of the coaches teaching the lessons and was impressed with the quality of the provision. We hope to build on this and enjoy more success and more importantly, give as many children the opportunity to partake in sport whether it be for fun or competitively. Below is a summary of those involved in sport last year.

Year 1: 57% club attendance; 33% did 3 or more clubs

Year 2: 70% club attendance; 30% did 3 or more clubs

Year 3: 95% club attendance; 65% did 3 or more clubs

Year 4: 90% club attendance; 33% did 3 or more clubs

Year 5: 93% club attendance; 77% did 3 or more clubs

Year 6: 100% club attendance; 88% did 3 or more clubs

Year 3 Competitive sports participation: 43%

 Year 5 : Competitive sports participation: 53%

Year 6: Competitive Sports participation: 83%

Our Sports Ambassadors are looking to organise House tournaments this year to allow all the opportunity to take part in team sports. If there are any sports we don't cover that children are interested in then please come and speak with me.

On Friday, the Year 1 and 2 classes were knee deep in newspaper. Parents kindly gave up their time to help the pupils with their group Technology project. They made some wonderful shelters for Sunny, using only newspaper.

Enjoy the weekend and just 3 more weeks!!
