Headteacher Weekly blog week beginning 9th November

Date: 15th Nov 2015 @ 12:06pm

Well we have been back for a couple of weeks and Christmas is already looming. Whilst in my office this week, I heard the sounds of Christmas songs for the first time and the practises will begin soon I am sure.

This week was of course Children in Need and as a school we always do like to recognise this worth while charity. I must thank parents for their kind contributions for the cake sale and donations for non uniform. Overall, we raised a respectable £340.

On Wednesday, the school came together for Remembrance Day. Last year, with it being the 100 year anniversary we recognised the event with a whole week of activities, guest speakers and trips. This year, a local resident within Churton came to speak with the Year 6 children to share his campaign for a memorial for the men of Churton who died in the War. The children were fascinated to see photographs from over 100 years ago - including the class of Farndon Primary in 1906. What was particularly poignant was that 2 of the children in that class went on to fight in war. We saw pictures of them in their uniform and then sadly saw their grave stone in a French cemetry. It culminated with seeing their names on the Farndon memorial in the churchyard as our House Captains laid a poppy wreath. It really helped the children to understand the personal loss people felt at this time and why it is so important we continue to remember them.

Mr Bond took a group of Year 1 and Year 2 children to a multi-skills event at the Heber Hight School. I was sadly in meetings so could not go, but from the photographs on the website it looked like they had a fantastic time. Well done to all the children for representing the school so well.

This week I met with the Early Years team to share new features in the digital learning journeys. I was so pleased to see all the entries from parents at home. I particularly love this feature as it is an excellent way of involving parents in their child's learning. Staff were excited as they got to have new I-Pads.

Perhaps the most pleasing thing of last week was celebration assembly. We are always so proud of the behaviour of our children both in class and when out representing the school. Arthur, in Year 6, was given a certificate because of how well he cared for his Reception buddy. He had heard that he wasn't feeling too well so took his packed lunch and ate with him in his classroom. Then, he stayed there all lunchtime to play with his buddy and look after him. It was a perfect example showing how kind and caring our children are and it was great that it was recognised with a certificate.

Next week, I am looking forward to going on the Year 3 and 4 trip to Liverpool and the Mosque. I have never visited a Mosque and so will share in the pupils' fascination as they learn about the special places of worship of the different religions.
