Headteacher Weekly blog week beginning 7th September

Date: 12th Sep 2015 @ 2:37pm

It was our first full week in school and I tried to get around and visit each of the classes to see how they had all settled.

Obviously, the Year 6 pupils went on their residential to Robinwood. They had a fantastic time on zip wires, rafts, climbing walls and worryingly swimming in piranha infested waters - the mind boggles. Mrs Higley came back and she gave me a glowing account of how well the class pulled together and bravely got stuck in to all the activities. However, I was more happy to hear how well the children behaved throughout their few days away. All the staff said they were an absolutely pleasure. I texted Mrs Higley at 10:00pm one evening and she said they were all fast asleep! Keep it up Year 6!

I went into Year 3 this week and got a telling off from the children. They were learning about On-line safety in their computing lessons. I shared 2 of my passwords and apparently using your name, or your child's name along with date of birth was not a strong password. I of course thought it was good because it was easy to remember. The children helped me to create a new one with letters, symbols and numbers.

Year 2 was most interesting this week. They have started their studies on the Jolly Postman and they all worked in small teams to create an interactive map of the story. It fell to me to "judge" the best one. Obviously, they were all so good that I declared the whole class should have a class bonus.

Our new Reception class just keep on amazing me. At lunch time as I was coming out of the building when some Reception children dashed to open the door for me. Then, in the afternoon, I was invited to eat some tasty plum crumble (my favourite!!!) in their classroom. It was delicious. I am expecting amazing things from our new Reception pupils.

It has been a happy and positive start to the new academic year. The week did end with something that made me smile. A young child gave comment on my appearance: "I like your beard Mr Walker; you look like a Bond villain!"  I think it was a compliment; all I need now is my very own white cat.
