Headteacher Weekly blog Week beginning 6th July
Date: 11th Jul 2015 @ 11:17am
The end of the academic year is in sight. But this week has been as busy as ever!
Some of our Year 6 pupils spent part of the week at the Heber High School taking part in various activities. When they came back to school in their new High School sport uniforms, they looked so smart and grown up. It was a reminder that we will soon be saying goodbye to our Year 6 pupils as they move on up to High School. In some ways it will certainly be a sad few days as they have been a wonderful Year 6 and have achieved so much.
This week was dominated with the Upper juniors' show: Dazzle - the Musical. It was a week when as Headteacher I was incredibly proud of both the staff and the children. They all did such a wonderful job and the show was absolutely fantastic. Mrs Maclean did such a good job with the singing. She doesn't just teach children how to sing a song, but how to perform it. Our children amaze me how confidently they perform and act whilst on stage in front of a large audience. There were so many wonderful performances and I was proud of all the pupils for their hard work and their talents. The academic subjects are of course hugely important to us as a school. However, I take great pride in how we also put huge efforts in developing our pupils in sports, culture and of course in this case the arts. For those parents who watched the show, please take the time to share a comment on the parent forum page.
I don't know how she did it, but whilst preparing for the show, Mrs Wakefield also found the time to pull together the Year 5 art project at the Heber High School. Parents can see the pictures in our gallery. The stimulus was to be inspired by music and our children took the work of graffiti artists as their inspiration and used the song "Uptown Funk". Considering the children had the stress of the show, they did so well and produced some fabulous art work. There was even time to wrap Alanah in cling film. Well done Year 5; you did a great job! The Arts are certainly strong within our school.
And the Year 5 children will certainly sleep this weekend as they also had a Maths and Computing day with teachers from the High School on Thursday. The teachers from the High School said they had a wonderful day as did the children. Let's hope they have a less stressful week in their final week of Year 5.
And finally, the Nursery pupils had their party before they start school. They were entertained by a magician, had party food and played lots of party games. We can't wait to see them in their smart red uniforms on their first day of school in September.
And so we will enter our final week and we can reflect on all we have achieved together this academic year and then look forward to the future and a new school year in September.
