Headteacher Weekly blog Week beginning 22nd June
Date: 27th Jun 2015 @ 11:05am
Well we are on the final run in and we are cramming in as much as possible before the end of the academic year.
The week began with a guitar performance from those pupils who have guitar lessons with Ian. Parents and children were invited to watch them perform. I was so impressed with their confidence. They played renditions of modern songs such as Frozen and Ed Sheeran. I hope it has inspired others within the school to take the opportunity to learn a new instrument, whether that be the guitar or the other tuition we offer such as piano and violin.
I bumped into some Year 5s this week walking across the playground asked them what they were doing. "We're off to do some graffit." Obviously, I was shocked and hastily followed them. It turned out they were doing their art work for the exhibition at the Heber High School. They are producing work inspired by the graffiti artist - Keith Haring. The description of what they are trying to produce sounded very exciting and I can't wait to see the finished article. I don't know where Mrs Wakefield gets all her creative ideas from!
The end of year show practises are in full swing now. Mrs Higley and her team are working flat out to make the show the best ever. I watched part of their rehearsal in the Sports and Social Club this week and the singing was fantastic. Some of the acting would not look out of place on the West End stage. It is so wonderful to see the children perform so confidently on the stage. I believe it is so important for the children to take part in shows such as this as there are so many learning opportunities; music, choral singing, speaking and listening, drama and self confidence. I was only allowed a sneaky peak and have to wait like everyone else to see the final show; I can't wait!
Friday was the trip for the Infant children. Their topic this year has been Pirates and the trip to New Brighton was a culmination of all the work they have been doing in class. If you access the photographs from the gallery page, you will see what a fantastic time they had. They even got to meet an actual pirate crew on the pirate boat ship wrecked on the shore. A big thank you to the staff for organising this day - it's just a pity the day ended with them all having to walk the plank!
In celebration assembly, the lady that came to talk to the children about the work of the NSPCC shared the final results of the spelling fundraiser challenge. Yr 2 and Yr 6 had the highest participation and were awarded certificates. Incredibly, the total raised at the moment is an impressive £2169.80. A big thank you needs to go to the children for their hard work and of course to all the people within the community for their generous donations.
I am crossing my fingers the weather holds out for the Infant Sports Day next week on Tuesday. And of course the Year 3 and 4 boys have got their first ever football match against another school on Monday.
