Headteacher Weekly blog week beginning 12th October
Date: 18th Oct 2015 @ 11:38am
Where does the time go? We are close to the end of the first half term and the school has been as busy as ever.
All week, as part of our curriculum for Health and Safety, the Year 6 pupils took part in the Bikeability programme. I spoke with the pupils and they thoroughly enjoyed learning about how to care and maintain their bikes and how to ride them safely when on the roads in their community. The Bikeability tutors spoke very positively about the behaviour of our Year 6 pupils who listened well and acted responsibily when riding around the roads within the village.
On Monday, the Reception children had a fabulous day at the Blue Planet. They enjoyed some hands on experiences and watching the divers swim with the sharks. Thankfully, no children joined them in the tank, but they did get up close and personal with the sharks in the glass tunnel. On their return, I watched the children recount the trip using talk for writing; they were learning lots of actions and acted out their day to help them do lots of writing about their experiences.
It has been a busy week for sport once again. Mr Bond sent a Year 6 hockey team to the Deeside Ramblers tournament. It started well, with a win against Tarvin, but then we tasted defeat in our next two games. No trophy this time. Also, our Year 5 and 6 football team had their next league match agaisnt Acresfield. The team had a much needed morale boosting win, beating Acresfield 4 - 0. Several children made their debuts, representing the school for the first time in both the hockey and the football and they did extremely well and enjoyed the experience. To maximise participation in competitive sport, Mr Bond is working with the Sports Ambassadors to organise our first Inter house tournament. Each house will have a rugby team and compete to win the Inter House Cup on Wednesday next week.
On line safety is hugely important both in school and at home. Parents can access a wealth of resources on the website (off the safeguarding tab). There are documents for Instagram and Snapchat, as well as web links with guidance on how to keep your child safe when on line. In school, we follow an On-line safety curriculum. The Year 6 pupils have made their own I-Movies, showing children what they can do to stay safe on line. I have seen some of them and they were fantastic! We plan to share them with children in assembly time.
Finally, the Year 1 and 2 pupils have been enjoying learning about Traditional Tales and on Friday they went to Prince Charming's Ball at Tatton Park. Children were shown around the mansion and got to experience what it would have been like to have lived as a servant and as royalty. The children then danced the waltz in the grand entrance hall, having practised with Miss Schofield - who looked splendid in her ball room gown; poor Mrs Pimparel I believe was confined to the kitchens as she was dressed as a scullery maid and no Fairy Godmother came to her rescue.
After lunch the children were shown around the gardens and were told facts and listened to different stories along the way. I have been told the children were amazing and the staff at the park commented on the pupils good behaviour, listening skills and their knowledge. A big thank you to all the parent helpers who helped throughout the day.
And so another busy week comes to an end. Only a 4 day week in the last week due to INSET on Friday; let's see what we managed to cram into those days for our pupils.
