Headteacher blog Week Beginning 23rd March
Date: 29th Mar 2015 @ 12:51pm
This week was certainly a busy week in school!
I am still trying to get over the tense footbal match with Newton Primary on Friday. We needed a win to ensure we finished in the top 2 positions in the league to qualify for the Super 8s finals. It was a tough ask as Newton had not conceded a goal in the league before the match with us. We raced into a 2 goal lead at half time. However, they clawed it back to 2 -2. With just seconds remaining Jack put us into the lead with a 20 yard screamer! The game looked won but deep into injury time they equalised from a corner. It was hard to take, but everyone agreed how well they had all played this year; they have been a real credit to the school.
The week started in an exciting way. The playground was full of superheroes! The Infant's topic has centred around superheroes and the children had the opportunity of dressing up as their favourite heroes. They had an exciting day putting their super powers to good use in lots of fun activities for their topic books. For their topics, the Juniors invited in a guest speaker from the zoo. The children got to experience some animals first hand, including cockroaches!! The upper Juniors also had a guest speaker, Isaac's Grandfather, who came in to talk about South America. Whenever we plan topics, teachers always try to plan enhancement opportunities such as these to add excitement and breadth into our curriculum.
As a school, we have invested heavily in improving writing across the school. We are very proud of the pupil's achievements this year in their writing. Some of our talented writers in Year 5 and 6 got the opportunity of travelling to a school in Northwich where they worked with a Literacy lead teacher to produce some writing that is to be published on a website. The 4 pupils, Issac, Megan, Molly and Amelia, returned to school with Mrs Wakefield exhausted, but certainly got a lot from it. I can't to wait to read their
The bingo on Thursday was so well attended and it was great to see so many families there. A big thank you to all the PTA and other adults who worked hard to put the event on. I am just relieved that I did not mess up with the calling of the numbers.
One final note is that the school prides itself on its caring and friendly ethos and it is regualrly commented on by visitors to the school. However, I felt we needed to agree and then be explicit to everyone the core values that we want to model and teach our children and school community. The teachers and school council have agreed on the following 6 core values: friendship, kindess, respect, responsibility, perseverance and creativity. We have put an assembly plan in place to cover these values on a Monday.
I am sure we are all looking forward to the Spring break and I can't wait to see what we manage to cram into the last 4 days.
