Headteacher blog Week beginning 18th May
Date: 23rd May 2015 @ 12:40pm
I can't quite believe that we are only a half term away from another academic year ending. This was a short half term, but we managed to cram in lots of exciting things.
It was a real shame that the Infants Sports Day, like last year, had to be cancelled but it was clearly the right decision as it poured down after dinner. But after a tricky decision with grey clouds overhead, the Junior Sports Day went ahead. For all those braved the cold, we were treated to a great afternoon of sports. As Headteacher, I was so proud to see the positive attitude of all the children who encouraged each other in each and every race. Our school values were clearly on show with pupils showing respect for each other and perseverance - never giving up.
In May, we had our General Elecetion and of course the Tomorrow Party won the most seats. This week, the party members met with 5 Parish Councillors and the Chair of Governors. They shared their manifesto points and other ideas that the pupils had shared with them. I was amazed how well the children conducted themselves. They spoke with confidence and the Parish Council are keen to work with the Tomorrow Party so together they can make a better "tomorrow" for our village. Some exciting ideas were around improvements to the facilities at the Sports and Social club which may include movie nights; one of the pupils' ideas.
Whilst we are off, can I remind all parents that they can log on to the virtual learning platform and access the Parent Forum page. You can contribute to a discussion page on Spiritual, Social, Moral and Cultural teaching within our school. Also, there is another exciting new feature. On the parent section there is a forms tab. There is a PE questionnaire that can be completed that can help us as a school evaluate this area of the curriculum. And finally parents can always go onto Parent View at anytime. This link can be found on the website under the parent tab.
There are a few building projects taking place over the half term. There are a few improvements being made to the lower playground. Also, the staff are having a well deserved revamp of their staff room so I am looking forward to seeing how it looks (I never got a say in the design, colour scheme and kitchen units as apparently it needed a woman's touch). I hope everyone has a great half term and I look forward to seeing everyone back in school on Monday.
