Junior Chef Academy
Lesson: Design and technology
This week all the children form Nursery up to Year 6 got to wear their apron and chef hats and got involved in whole class cookery.
We invited Junior Chef Academy to work with the children to meet some of the aspects of the new Technology curriculum. Learning how to cook is a crucial life skill that enables pupils to feed themselves and others affordably and in a healthy way, now and in later life. Pupils should now be taught how to cook and apply the principles of nutrition and healthy eating.
During the sessions, the children were helped to prepare both sweet and savoury dishes, using a range of cooking techniques and were taught where and how a variety of ingredients are grown, reared and processed.
I think it is fair to say the children had a fantastic time and learnt about food in a really fun way. They all clearly enjoyed learning about healthy eating and some of the practical skills required to be a top chef.
It’s just a shame I never got to taste any of the delicious looking rice dishes or the tasty fruit cocktails!!!!
A big thank you must be given to the PTA who funded the sessions so that all the children across the school got to experience some cooking and to Mr Bond for organising the 2 days.
