Year 3 and 4 Football
On Monday, we took two football teams from Year 3 and 4 to play teams from St Oswalds.
It was their first competitive match for the school and the children were very excited. Both matches were fantastic to watch and there was some really good football played. Farndon Golds played first and dominated from the off. We had a corner, and Daniel in Year 3 rose highest at the back post and scored a bullet header. St Oswalds scored an equalizer with a brilliant team goal. With the game looking likely to finish level, Daniel raced through and played Todd in. He scored and the game finsihed with a 2 - 1 win.
Farndon Whites hit the ground running. James from Year 4 scored early and then quickly followed it up with a second. The team was cruising and missed several chances. Then, the team captain, Henry, broke through the midfield down the right handside and then let fly with a strike from distance. That made it 3 - 0 and another victory.
Farndon Golds man of the match was Daniel from Year 3 and Farndon Whites man of the match was Cameron from Year 3.
Winning was the icing on the cake, but the real reason for playing was to develop the pupils' social skills and how to deal with disagreements on the football field, support their team mates and work as a team. Both matches were actually played without a referee! We asked the children to self police each other and to work decisions out between themselves. They were fantastic and all the 16 children involved were a credit to the school. Now we have to ensure that the good work of this match transfers onto the field at break time.
Well done to the pupils from Year 3 and 4; another Farndon victory.
