Deanery Athletics

On Monday after school it was the Deanery athletics held at Tarporley High School. It is an historic event, which has been for over 100 years!

Events included track events such as sack race, sprint, long distance and relay. There were also field events for throwing and long jumping.

We took a huge team of over 20 athletes from Year 3 up to Year 6. Every single member can be hugely proud of their achievements and earned valuable points for the team.

We were very strong in the sprint. There were gold medals for Lilly Down (Yr3), Mollie (Yr 5), Enoch (Yr 4) and Toby (Yr 5). Sienna (Yr5) and Oscar had fine runs earning Bronze and Silver respectively.

In the sack race there were silver medals for Noah (Yr4), Filip (Yr6), Olle Jae (Yr5), Zara (Yr5) and Charlotte (Yr6). However, the star of the show ws Layla (Yr4) who stormed to victory to win gold!

The long distance is always a brutal race. Zara as a Year 5 with Year 6 pupils ran an incredible race to earn bronze. Henry, Harvey and Flo earned top 10 finishes to earn valuable points. Polly gave us all a masterclass performance, leading from the front and winning gold in style. Special shout to Blake who as a Year 3 in a Year 3/4 race just missed out on the top 10 - there will be next year of course.

In the field events, Ollie-Jae earned bronze in the throwing. In the long jump, Jessica (Yr 3) was brilliant to win silver and Mollie and Toby in Year 5 jumped their way to gold.

The event ended with the team relay. Our boys team had some late changes. Running in second, we had a baton drop, but Sam still brought us home in third. The girls team smashed it with slick handovers and finished first to win gold.

As a team, we earned second place overall which was a great result. Well done to the whole team. As coaches, myself and Dan could not be more proud.
