Headteacher Weekly blog week beginning 1st September
Date: 6th Sep 2015 @ 10:52am
It is always a shock to the sytem getting back into routine after a lovely relaxing summer; this Friday I slept for 13 hours!!
However, I must say that the first week back was an enjoyable one. All the children settled into their new classes quickly. As I walked around school I was met with smiles and friendly faces. All the teachers were very positive about their new classes and commented on how hard they worked and their positive attitudes. Long may this continue!
In my opening assembly, I brought in a wet sponge! We talked about how lucky we are to have the opportunity of an education and the resources that we have available. I told the children that their brains are like sponges, sucking up all the learning and that they had to grab the opportunities given to them with both hands. We discussed what they needed to do in order for their sponges to work at their best: to be responsible for their learning, to show perseverance in their learning, to effectively listen and try their very best at all times.
One particularly pleasing moment of this week was when I went into Year 6. I was told I had to hear Glenn's writing, which was fantastic and so my response was obviously moving to gold. As he walked to the front to move his name the class began to spontaneously applaud; I'm sure Glenn grew another few inches as he went back to his chair.
The real stars of the week though were the Reception children. They settled into school life so well and it is like they have been with us for years! I was particularly pleased at lunchtime. Most children had a school lunch and the middays commented they had never seen such smart, sensible and well behaved children. I am looking forward to meeting them all properly next week and going in to read a story.
It is fair to say that I came home on Friday with a smile on my face, already excited about what we might go onto achieve this year as a school community.
