Headteacher Weekly blog week beginning 16th November
Date: 22nd Nov 2015 @ 1:46pm
It was another busy week in school and I was fortunate enough to spend some time in several different classrooms.
I enjoyed working in Year 2 and listening to some of the readers and watching their guided reading session. The children were all working so hard and it was great to see the pupils responding to texts and answering some challenging questions. One of the pupils told me all about their golden readers and that she was choosing a book for her turn. The golden readers have the chance to read to other pupils in the reading corner and go into the "special book".
I had a great time teaching in Year 6 on Wednesday. The class were an absolute pleasure to teach and have really stepped things up now they are our Year 6s. We learnt all about Roman baths and what the Ancient Romans did in their leisure time. Then, I was in Year 4 for maths who were learning all about acute and obtuse angles. I really liked to see the pupils responding to the teacher's green for growth marking and trying to solve the challenge question.
It was a great shame that the Year 3 and 4 trip was postponed on Wednesday. Obviously, we are very keen to reschedule and Mrs McCarthy has already arranged a provisional date and we are just awaiting confirmation and it is likely to take place early in the Spring term.
This week was Anti Bullying Week and as always we recognised this with various activities. The Year 5 pupils created posters with the message "Stamp out Bullying." The Year 6 and the Year 3 pupils learnt a song called "Reach Out". Not only did they sing, but they also learnt to sign the song as well. They performed in our whole school assembly on Anti Bullying and were fantastic! The song helped to send the message that we are all different and we are to reach out to others and celebrate those differences and learn about them.
Finally, my week ended with the PTA meeting and the preparations for the Christmas Fair is in full swing. The PTA very kindly agreed to use some of the money raised to buy guided reading material in all of the classes. I know the staff will hugley appreciate this. It will certainly help give our pupils an appreciation of quality texts and develop a love of reading.
