Headteacher Weekly blog week beginning 12th September

Date: 18th Sep 2016 @ 11:24am

All classes are now in the swing of things and it seems like we have never been away!

Our Year 6 pupils have settled back into school well. Mrs Higley was impressed their attitude and there was certainly some significant improvement. We believe having the residential  early certainly helps them come together as a year group in their important last year. I enjoyed taking the class on Friday. We particularly enjoyed creating our own 'choose your own adventure' games linked to their topic on South America. Roxie had already completed her own which even included a game where you threw bananas at a monkey! Henry and James also created a great game with multiple choices and changing backgrounds.

Premier Sports are back in the swing of things with their after school clubs. They are also doing lunch time clubs to either help prepare teams for up and coming tournaments or sports clubs for different key stages. With the Tag rugby tournaments rapidly approaching, the coaches have been working hard to get them match ready so that they all know the rules! The upper juniors enjoyed a hockey session led by Jayne Haggis and she was impressed by the skills and control of many of the pupils - it bodes well for the future hockey matches.

The lower juniors had a visit from the local history society. It was an interesting presentation on their work in Holt and some of the rich local history within our 2 villages. It was a great opportunity to get hands on with history, handling actual artefacts and they learnt to appreciate how we can find out about the past through what we find.

Our assembly focus this term is on Friendship and in the first few weeks we have shared stories on how Friends go that extra mile. As I walk around school and on the playrounds, I hope to see evidence of the values we have shared in our assemblies so far.
